Camel, Seacell & Faux Cashmere, Hand Dyed, Gradient, 100g
A lovely soft fibre, perfect for those who feel the prickles, or just like woking with a little bit of luxury.
This blend has great body which is unusual for a non-wool fibre, accompanied by an iridescent sheen.
33% Faux Cashmere (Nylon)
This has been well blended to mix the different fibres thoroughly.
Hand dyed by me in my home in the Welsh hills using acid dyes, these give strong long lasting colours.
I have quite a few friends who can't work with wool, they get a bit of a raw deal when it comes to pretty dyed fibres. Most things tend to be silky, and drapey, great for shawl, less good when you want something with a bit of body and bounce.
This range of blended tops was put together with them in mind, but they're lovely to spin for anyone who wants something soft. Like all the rest of my fibres I created a usable, easy to spin blend, they've been test spun, by myself and several other spinners, you can see what they thought in this thread.
Faux Cashmere is a manmade fibre, similar to nylon or polyester but much nicer to spin. In this blend it adds strength, and structure. Camel has quite a short staple, and pills very quickly by itself. It can also tend to be over-hot to wear, this synthetic fibre just makes the blend more spinnable, and creates a better yarn for long term use.
Seacell is a cellulose fibre, made from seaweed, it resists the acid dyes giving a beautiful shimmery effect to the finished yarn. It's shiny, but not at all like silk.
If I were to compare this to a wool fibre it feels very like a carded batt to spin, and as a spun yarn. It has wonderful bounce and memory, great for anything that you want to hold it's shape. Also works well as a thicker yarn.
