Hand Dyed Peduncle Tussah Silk
100g (3.5oz)
Peduncle Silk comes from the tropical Tasar caterpillar in India. When the caterpillar spins its cocoon it first produces a stem known as a peduncle, for the cocoon to hand from. Peduncle silk has a shorter staple length, and a greater bulk than many of the other silk types. It's natural colour is a stunning shade of grey-brown.
This fibre is hand dyed in small batches in my home in the Welsh hills using acid dyed. These give safe, strong, long-lasting colours.
Where more than one braids is available they will have been dyed at the same time, using the same dye stock, but my dyeing technique produces braids with subtle variations, no two braids are ever identical.
